Mr Karthik Karuppaiah joined Kings College Hospital as a Consultant in 2014 following the completion of his advanced fellowship training in shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist surgeries. With the experience he gained during his orthopaedic training (2004-2014), he manages a wide range of orthopaedic conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist. His clinical expertise includes the comprehensive evaluation and management of upper limb sports injuries, arthritis, nerve and tendon problems. He also treats major trauma patients, at Kings College Hospital, one of the busiest Major Trauma Centres in the UK and also provides tertiary referral service for complex upper-limb injuries.

Mr Karuppaiah’s Orthopaedic training was at two internationally renowned institutions, namely Kings’ College Hospital, London and Ganga Hospital, India. He was also trained in various hospitals in southeast London and northeast England. He has completed his master’s degrees in Orthopaedics, from the Teesside University, UK and Madras Medical College, India. He is a member & fellow of Royal College of Surgeons and holds a masters degree in Orthopaedics on Evidence Based Medicine. This fine-tuned his clinical approach to patients to enable him to provide the best available and up-to-date evidence-based, cutting-edge care.

He regularly lectures both nationally and internationally at leading conferences and training courses and continues to teach the modern orthopedic techniques to trainees. He is intensely involved in teaching and training surgical trainees from the SE Thames Orthopaedic rotation. He is part of the Kings FRCS revision course faculty, Hand surgery FRCS (Orth) revision course faculty and Medway Upper-limb course faculty. In addition he is a clinical and educational supervisor for foundation year and specialty training doctors and teaches orthopaedics to undergraduate students at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School.

He has a brilliant academic career and has published more than 25 articles in peer reviewed indexed journals. He has a specialist interest in upper-limb research and has won several research accolades both at the national and international levels. His research work is cited by numerous authors, journals and orthopaedic textbooks. He is a member of the editorial board and is also a reviewer of various international scientific orthopaedic journals.
